Senior Citizen Dating Ideas For A First Date

June 17, 2010 by admin

Senior citizen dating is far more common today than it once was. When marriages lasted for life, there was less need for older people to go out on dates. There has also always been some sense of taboo about older people needing companionship and romance in the later years of their life. But, as boomers age and their marriages fall apart, these taboos are falling away as well.

Going out on a first date is daunting no matter what your age is. At 16, there is anxiety and awkwardness. At 30, there may be a sense of desperation to find and land a mate. But at 50, there are another set of issues.

For one thing, many people in this age group haven’t been on a date in a long time. They feel “out of practice.” This article will give you some tips on how to approach a first date for senior citizen dating.

First of all, plan where you are going to go carefully. Remember, you don’t have to commit to a full evening of events such as dinner and a movie. In fact, meeting for lunch or coffee may actually relieve some of the tension and first date jitters.

If you have a shared interest, it can be a good idea to plan a date around that. For instance, art lovers may enjoy a stroll around an art gallery or museum. You’ll find you have more to talk about when you have something in common.

Many people aren’t comfortable meeting someone alone on a first date. Let’s face it, there are a lot of psychos out there. A senior citizen dating someone for the first time should consider meeting in a public place and arriving separately. That way, if things just aren’t right, either one can choose to end the date quickly. As an extra precaution, always let a friend or family member know where you are going and who you are going with.

It can be hard to meet new people for senior citizens. They have busy lives and have been involved with the same organizations for a long time. Sometimes meeting new people means breaking out of the mold and doing something new. This can include joining new organizations or taking up a new hobby.

Another option for senior citizen dating is to go onto one of the dating sites for mature people. These sites specialize in creating matches among the older set. They work the same way as dating sites for the general population, but are marketed to the 50 plus crowd.

Love and romance doesn’t have to end as people age. Senior citizen dating is alive and well and we should all give a cheer for it.

Avoid The Perils Of Online Dating For Seniors

May 19, 2010 by admin

Finally, online dating for seniors has given us a real way of meeting potential life partners. Forget joining the local aged veterans club, or the cookery course for the over 55 or Yoga for the mature age group. Now you can join a website and within minutes have access to a group of individuals who are looking for partners and actually know who Bob Hope and John Wayne were.

Ok so that last comment was meant as a joke. But seriously mention online dating clubs to most people, of a certain age, and they automatically think you are trying to hook up with a twenty five year old.

Online dating for seniors opens up a world of opportunity that generations before us couldn’t dream of. Not only can you find someone who has the qualities you admire most but the fact that they are a member means that they are also looking for someone special.

So how do you find your Mr or Mrs Right? Well there is no “fail safe way” but it helps if you give the process a chance. Despite what the movies may say, less than a quarter of happily married women “knew” that the man they were dating was the “one” on the first couple of dates. Love is like a delicate flower – it needs time and attention to mature to its full promise. So the moral of the story is that you should give a new friendship time to mature. Unless of course, you are obviously incompatible.

Using an online service allows you to build up friendships via email or instant messenger before you have to talk to the person. Often, probably due to the anonymity, we get closer quicker to people we have only met on email than we would if we meet them in person.

When preparing for your first date, think about the first impression the other person is going to get. If it has been a while since you were out socially, you may be stuck in a time warp. I’m not suggesting you need to become a fashion victim but get a good friend to vet the outfit you choose; to double check the image you are projecting. Mutton dressed as lamb is never attractive for either sex!

Make sure that you stick to the following rules when using any dating service. Until you have complete trust in the other person i.e. have met in person and preferably more than once,

1) Communicate via the agencies internal secure email system. Do not give out your home or cell number, or your full name and address.

2) Always meet in a public place

3) Always, always have your own transport home. Get a friend, family member or have a taxi booked for a specific time to collect you.

Abide by these simple rules and you will have no problems avoiding the perils of online dating for seniors. Who knows, it could turn into an enjoyable way to spend an evening or two. Or it may turn into a lifetime commitment for both of you.

7 Tips To Success With Senior Singles Dating

April 20, 2010 by admin

How can you be successful with senior singles dating? Quite easily if you play your cards right and have an open mind.

The first step is deciding that you are ready to start a new relationship. Often this is the hardest particularly if you have suffered a bereavement or a painful divorce. Even an amicable divorce can turn you off dating for a while.

So now you have decided to date, where have all the potential partners gone? My mom says that dates are like buses. There is never one around when you need it and then they come in twos and threes!

There are some tips that will help you gain success with senior singles dating:

1) Be open to all possibilities. He may not be Mr Right but he could be Mr Right now. This means that while you may not want to be with him forever, he would do for the next while. You never know he may grow on you.

2) If he doesn’t grow on you, he may have a wider circle of friends that just might contain a couple of eligible dates. You don’t know until you try.

3) Join several different types of dating clubs. You can try online sites, speed dating, dining clubs, singles nights etc. The more avenues you are willing to explore, the higher your chances of success.

4) “Sell” yourself properly. Get your closest friends to write your description, and unless you are a real gifted comedian leave out the good sense of humour! Often a written description is the first thing that your potential partner will see.

5) If you do decide to publish a photo, make it a flattering but accurate image. If you put up a false photo – say one taken twenty years ago, then don’t be surprised if some of your first dates do not turn into seconds.

6) If you have had a number of first dates but few seconds, ask your friends to help you determine why. You may have given out the wrong signal. Sometimes, when we are nervous our adverse personality traits become more dominant, so we talk more/louder/less etc.
Your friends can help you work on this by setting up practice date sessions. This should be fun so don’t take it too seriously. And remember your friends are not likely to be honest if you easily take offence.

7) On a similar note to above, list only your positive qualities even if asked for negative ones. You are trying to project as good an image as possible. Listing traits such as dogmatic, possessive, jealous etc are unlikely to attract meaningful relationships.

Approach this dating game with a good sense of humour and the attitude that you are here to have fun. If you meet someone special then great but it is not the end of the world if your Mr or Ms Right remains in hiding. This is the way to success with senior singles dating.

Tips on how to Get Over a Breakup

April 6, 2010 by admin

Love or lust? Are you sure that you and your partner have been sharing an authentic romantic relationship? Sometimes, a relationship is based more on lust than true love. In this case, it may still hurt a little bit when it’s over, but it’s much easier to get over the breakup. If it was true love, then the tips that follow should answer your question of “how to get over a breakup?”

It’s never pleasant to be in love with another person, only for them to tell you they don’t feel the same about you anymore. It’s hard when this happens. It’s hard to let go of the relationship. When dealing with the subject of how to get over a break up, the first thing you have to do is to switch your way of thinking.

Instead of thinking of your past relationship; learn how to get over a breakup by distracting yourself and shifting your thoughts to some other things. Focusing on your work (but don’t get overwhelmed) may help. If you don’t want to throw yourself into your work, then it’s time for you to take up a new activity or hobby. Spend some time with friends you haven’t been able to hang out with in a long time. Start going to new places, that you may have wanted to go to, but never had the time or the chance to go to.

If you keep an active lifestyle you will be able to forget your ex for a while (and then you will be able to forget them totally). As you allow yourself to be in the company of others and do other activities, you will help yourself heal faster.

Another tip on how to get over a breakup is to talk to someone who you completely trust. You’ll be able to talk about all your feelings and emotions with them. Sometimes it helps to just talk and let the bottled up feelings come out. It’s better to let your sadness, bitterness, and/or anger come out; instead of bottling it up and letting them eat you up inside. By talking it out with someone you trust, you’ll be able to “detoxify” your emotions.

While it’s okay to take some time to recoup from a breakup, don’t let it ruin your life. It’s important that you don’t just lie around the house and don’t do anything. Use your family and friends as support. Don’t beat yourself up mentally over the breakup. The longer you dwell on the relationship and what went wrong, the harder it will be for you to recover and move on.

The best advice on how to get over a breakup, is to make sure you take care of yourself. It may be hard to do, but you have to ensure you’re eating properly and you’re getting enough rest. Exercise is also a great way to help get rid of some of your negative feelings and will help you feel better faster. If you don’t eat properly or get enough rest, you’ll feel worse than you already do. After a break up it’s hard enough to think clearly, let alone when you are not providing your body with proper sleep and nutrition.

Facing the Challenege of College Dating

March 30, 2010 by admin

What’s so challenging about college dating? Let’s take a look at this important period of change in a person’s life.

Students facing the transition from high school to college are likely facing the biggest challenge they’ve ever had to face. Expectations are raised, both for themselves and from others. Moving on to college means moving on to a new level of academic performance.

It’s the time when most of us move beyond being a not so serious teenager to a very serious adult who is focused on furthering their education and planning for their future. Not only are we expected to think more seriously about ourselves, but at the same time many of us find that we’re leaving behind some of the relationships we’ve formed throughout our earlier school years. Best friends, acquaintances, team members, and even boyfriends and girlfriends are sometimes left behind as we move onto the next important stage in our lives and maturity.

So how difficult is it to handle this serious emotional, physical, academic, and personal change? College life can be intimidating, particularly for those who decide to attend school away from home. Moving away means not only losing the relationships they’ve grown comfortable with for so many years, but in many cases losing the emotional support system their family has been for them through their younger years. All aspects of college life may be completely foreign to the new college student, and college dating only complicates matters.

Why? Because at times many outgoing and engaging young people who had no problem creating dating relationships in high school may be intimidated by the prospect of dating a new “class” of potential partner.

The thing to remember about college dating is that one shouldn’t approach it as such a serious process. There is plenty of “serious” stuff going on in your transition from high school teen to college adult, so to put too much emphasis on being serious about a relationship is not what college dating should be about.

Try and approach college dating as a way to share the college experience with someone who shares similar interests and preferences. Seek out dating relationships with classmates who are studying the same classes or are on the same degree track. In this way, you can be sure that your comfort level is established prior to beginning the formal dating process.

College dating doesn’t have to be difficult. A new college student already faces enough of a challenge in this very important stage in their lives, so being too serious about their approach to dating shouldn’t overwhelm them. There’s plenty of time to be serious about a partner, but if a casual college dating relationship grows on its own into something more substantial, then at least it will come as a result of a natural process rather than an unnecessary focus on being overly serious.

The Top Five Characteristics Of A Healthy Relationship

March 17, 2010 by admin

If you haven’t had much chance to see how healthy, loving relationships work on a daily basis, taking some time to really study the characteristics of healthy relationships can give you a much better chance of having one yourself. There are lots of different styles of relationships that can work just fine, but all those successful relationship styles tend to have a few things in common.

Respect!

Respect is the one of the main characteristics of a healthy relationship, whether it’s friendship, dating, or marriage. A partner who respects you is willing to listen to you in a non-judgmental way and considers your interests when making any mutual decisions. Any partner who disrespects you by making belittling comments about you, criticizing you in front of others, or disregarding your feelings is one you don’t need.

Support!

After respect, support comes in next as a critical characteristic of a healthy relationship. You and your partner should be encouraging each other to go after important goals and dreams and giving each other enough freedom to do so. When times get hard, you back each other up instead up tearing each other down.

That doesn’t mean you can expect support for everything you do, though. If your partner is nagging you to quit smoking, eat better, or not stay at the office until 11 o’clock every night, they’re probably doing it out of concern for your well being.

Trust!

In a strong, healthy relationship, neither of you should become suspicious or jealous without clear cause. If you have a niggling feeling that you can’t trust your significant other, your relationship will go downhill fast.

That sense of trust doesn’t develop overnight, though. It comes from each partner keeping their promises and sticking to the implicit rules of the relationship (no sleeping around, no lying about major issues, etc.) consistently over a period of time.

No manipulative behavior!

Negotiating is one thing, using threats, guilt, and lies to manipulate a partner into doing something is another. No one should have to put up with being bullied this way. If your partner threatens to leave you, withhold physical affection, or in some other way “punish” you during every little disagreement, you may want to reconsider the relationship.

Economic equality!

This is one of the less obvious ones, but it’s just as important as the others. Some people, maybe due to an underlying fear of not being able to support themselves, tend to get into relationships where they’re financially dependent on their partner.

At first, the idea of having someone support you might sound nice, but what happens if things turn sour? If you don’t have the financial wherewithal to leave the relationship when you want, you could find yourself at the mercy of someone who doesn’t have your best interests at heart. Never let your partner use money to control you.

There are dozens of characteristics of a healthy relationship, but these are some of the most important ones. Remember, though, it’s a two way street. You may be doing everything “right,” but if your partner is disrespectful, unsupportive, or manipulative, you can’t call it a healthy relationship.

4 Stages of Breaking up Exposed

March 7, 2010 by admin

Love is said to be the most wonderful thing here on earth. It actually makes our lives more meaningful. In addition, loving and being loved in return or simply being in a relationship is the most wonderful experience that we can go through. However, a happy and bright relationship may turn into darkness once it reaches the end of the line which is usually referred to as breaking up.

This is the time when we feel so terrible because of the hurts and pains that we feel deep within our hearts. As a matter of fact, there are certain stages of breaking up which we are going to encounter whether we like it or not. Here are some of the most common stages of breaking up:

1st stage: The first stage concerning break ups is the feeling of shock. This is actually our initial reaction once we find out that our relationship is about to end. This feeling is just pretty normal because no one knows when, where, and how a certain break up will happen.

2nd stage: Refusing to believe that our relationship has now had to end is the second stage which we will encounter in a break up experience. If we haven’t been shocked with the news of breaking up then maybe, we are just in denial that something is wrong with our present relationship. We try to make ourselves believe that any cracks in our relationship are just cracks that can still be solved; when in fact such cracks are hard to fix and worst of all, cannot be fixed anymore.

3rd stage: The third stage is depression. Being depressed after the break up is just a normal feeling. After all, no one is going to be happy in news about breaking up. However, we simply have to bear in mind not to think excessively about what happened because it won’t do us any good at all.

4th stage: The last stage that we are going to encounter in a break up experience is acceptance. Sometimes, the very best way to deal with a break up is to accept the fact that our relationship was never meant to last. We just have to be happy that we have experience the magic of love even in a short while with someone whom we really loved. At this stage, you realize that it is over and you probably will be willing to meet some new people to potentially date.

Is It Worth It To Enter Relationship Counseling

March 2, 2010 by admin

When it comes to counseling, the one that is most called upon is relationship counseling. Out of every twenty couples, 17 of them have underwent some form of relationship counseling. With good reason, too, since relationships tend to be counter intuitive. Counselors who specialize in relationships have helped couples to live happier and more fulfilled.

To dispel the myths surrounding relationship counseling, it is important to know that it is not about winning or losing or placing blame. The central focus of the counseling is to develop the communication skills needed to learn from your partner and balance your needs with theirs. Blame only helps to alienate and push you partner away. A lot of the problems that cause us to pull our hair out are in fact nothing that is worth getting too angry about, but it takes an outside party to realize it.

Relationship counseling also puts both into a controlled environment where they can vent and get everything out in a safe way. The counselor sets the guidelines and rules the force and enable civilized discussion. Now that is not to say that what works for one couple will work for another. Some couples need a mediator, someone who just listens on the sides. This counselor will set guidelines for communication, allowing the couple to talk things out themselves.

Other couples need someone who will guide the discussion. Attempts to work things out on their own quickly degrades into yelling matches and bare knuckle arguments. Relationship counseling here aims to guide the conversation and not let it get out of hand or uncontrollable. Over all, there is a variety of couples who will need an equally variable number of counselors. Despite this, counseling is statistically certain to improve your relationship.

One of the things that needs to be learned is to identify and address the issues that threaten relationships. Unfortunately, the emotions and stresses that plagues relationships make it especially difficult to identify those issues. That is what relationship counseling is made to do. Counseling will identify the unique problems that prevent a couple from communicating, address the problems that are there and bring the couple to a place that will allow them to thrive.

How Can I Stop My Divorce

February 25, 2010 by admin

A lot of people going through rough times will ask the question, “How Can I Stop My Divorce?” There is no real catch all answer or solution to the question; each marriage and each person is different. There are some mistakes that are very commonly made, however, and from these we can learn what needs to be done to win back a partner and avoid mistakes.

The first common mistake is that a person will give lines that are meant as reassurances. Saying that you will be better or that things have changed. This sort of line is rarely believed. It sounds desperate and truly insincere, and makes you appear weak in the eyes of your partner. It does not matter how sincere you are or how much you think they want to hear it. “I have changed’ will not stop my divorce!”

What will work is to not say anything. There will not be much that will convince them or reassure them. Actions are what are needed. Do not say that you have changed, actually change. You should be strong in working with you partner, and do the things that are needed to fix your relationship.

Another mistake made is to engage in emotional blackmail. Saying “I love you,” is an obvious line, that makes it seem that you are attacking their weak point. That phase is one of the most powerful of phrases. It carries with it so much weight and power, that it is something that should not be used lightly. It should definitely not be used to try and fix a failing marriage.

How can you convey your love then? You might ask how you can “stop my divorce” if you never say “I love you?” You should not say “I love you” when you and your partner are in a weak emotional state. Save the line for when the marriage is mended. Otherwise, you will tax your spouse emotionally.

The next big mistake to make is to argue. “If they see their hypocrisy, that will stop my divorce.” Techniques of reason to change your spouses mind, or attempting to guilt them to your side, is destined for failure. One wants to be right, and convince your partner that you are right, or you want to point out the failings of your partner. This sort of thing will only push you farther away.

The fix is to not argue. Do not enter into an argument, and do not start an argument. All that will do is add to the problem. “How can not fixing the problem stop my divorce?” The root of the problem can only come to light if you remove the competition and need to win.

“So, how can I stop my divorce,” you may ask. The short answer is to not attack and to use actions over words. It will be through being strong and making changes that things will change. “Words will not stop my divorce, logic and reason will only hurt, I must act and solve the problems without lip service.”
