Breaking Up And Getting Back Together – Can It Work Out

July 25, 2010 by admin

Breaking up and getting back together, can it work? That is a question that a lot of people ask. It’s not uncommon to break up with someone and later regret the breakup and try to reconcile. The question is, will it work? The answer is, it depends…

It depends on many factors. Below is a list of some things you have to honestly consider before you get back together with your ex:

1) Why did you break up in the first place? If you broke up because of major differences in your outlooks and personalities and found that you were constantly clashing then getting back together would be a bad idea.

Neither of you will be able to completely change your personality. Nor should you. If you are just not compatible that won’t change. It’s time to move on and find someone you are more in sync with.

2) If the reason you broke up was fairly minor daily hassles you have to decide if either of you are willing, and able, to honestly discuss it and make the changes necessary to make the relationship work. If you think that the two of you are mature enough to have an honest discussion of the problems and work on fixing them then you might be able to make it work this time around.

3) Was there infidelity or abuse? For the most part, if either of these things were present you’re probably better off finding someone new. Most people don’t really change to a significant degree. If you or your ex is a cheater that pattern will more than likely continue unless extensive therapy is undertaken.

If abuse is the problem no one should be given a second chance to hit or hurt you again. Leave, and don’t look back. Hopefully your ex will get help and be able to overcome the problem but that type of treatment isn’t always successful and could take years, it’s time for you to move on for good.

Breaking up and getting back together, for the most part, can only be accomplished if you and your ex can be totally honest with yourself and each other. It’s not impossible to make changes but it can be challenging and unless both parties are in agreement and are committed to making the positive changes needed to make the relationship work it’s probably better to call it quits and move on.

Healing A Broken Heart With Hope

June 29, 2010 by admin

Healing a broken heart isn’t something that can happen overnight. Unfortunately, there’s no magic wand you or anyone can wave to make you feel better. But there are a few things you can do to make healing a broken heart a little faster and easier.

Surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude. The people you hang out with have a lot to do with your general level of happiness and your state of mind. This holds true every day of your life, not just when you’re heartbroken over a breakup.

If you spend your time with very intelligent people who have thought-provoking conversations, you’ll tend to use your brain more, too. If you spend time with people who practice bad habits like smoking or drug use, or even eating foods that are unhealthy, you’re more likely to do those things.

So if you spend your time with people who feel like love is only for a chosen few and that all men or women are faithless, you might start to adopt those attitudes. If your best friends are pessimists or always depressed, you’re setting yourself up to adopt those same feelings.

Surrounding yourself with positive people every day can help lift your spirits and make you a more positive, hopeful person. This is especially important when you’re working on healing a broken heart.

If everyone around you is a downer, they may try to help you heal but they’ll do it in a negative way. “He was probably cheating on you anyway.” “He was a loser.” “He was holding you back.”

Even though they mean these things to be helpful, all that negativity makes an impact. But positive people will offer suggestions and support in a different way.

“There’s something better waiting for you.” “Now you can do that thing you wanted to do but couldn’t.” “You have so much to offer someone else.” Support like that is just better for your overall mood than support springing from a negative outlook.

And positive people are just more hopeful in general, about everything. Instead of fretting about not doing well at something, they realize that failure is possible but choose to focus their energies on the hope of success. This is one of the key to success in life—believing that it’s possible.

By spending more time with hopeful, positive people when healing a broken heart, you can adopt those bright attitudes in every aspect of your life. Not only will the hope you’ll start to feel help your heart to heal, but you can see improvements in all of your relationships.

When you learn to look for the positive in every situation instead of dwelling on the negative, you’ll find that you’re more open to possibilities than ever before. You’ll start to expect good things, which paves the way for them to happen.

When healing a broken heart, not only can hope help it happen, it can help prepare you to enjoy a new relationship that’s bound to be better that the old one!

Should You Break Up And Get Back Together

June 2, 2010 by admin

A friend of mine recently broke up with her boyfriend, but started having second thoughts about the breakup. She asked me if I thought they could break up and get back together. I told her that I thought it depended on a few things:

You often hear people say that relationships take work, and that is true, to a point. The reality is that many of us close our eyes when entering into a relationship. We totally ignore all warning signs that this just isn’t going to work out, and we often cling to the sinking ship long after we should have jumped overboard.

A good relationship with someone you are compatible with will take work, but not as much as if you try to force something with someone you simply aren’t compatible with.

You can’t fit a square peg in a round hole and that’s what many people try to do with their relationships. They know deep inside that this person isn’t right for them but for some reason they feel the need to hold on tightly. Maybe it’s the fear of starting over or being alone, but in the long run you risk being miserable instead of being happy with the right person.

So to answer the question of getting back together after a breakup you have to be honest with yourself about the reason you broke up.

Most often when a couple breaks up it’s because things have gone so far that it’s difficult, or impossible, to fix. If you could identify a problem and fix it right away before the resentments and anger grows you’d have a better chance of saving the relationship .

Most people are in denial and don’t want to rock the boat so they ignore the small problems and before they know it those small problems have grown into huge problems, and by then it’s usually too late.

If you’ve broken up over small generally insignificant differences and you’re both mature enough and willing to openly discuss the issues then yes, by all means, get back together.

But if the problems have grown too big and the resentments have gone too deep then it’s probably best not to break up and get back together. Just learn from your mistakes and move on. As painful as this might be in the long run it will be less painful than staying in a bad relationship.

Are You In A Love Depression

April 29, 2010 by admin

Are you in a love depression? This is where your heart has been broken and you feel low about it. You may believe that you will never have another romance. Here’s what to do if you are in a love depression.

First of all, you need to recognize that, however painful, this is a temporary period in your life. You will get through your love depression. But, you may need help.

Turn to your friends and family during this tough period in your life. They will always be there for you. Don’t be afraid to cry on their shoulders. One of the ways you will know when you have come out of the love depression is when you yourself are bored with talking about your ex.

But, if your friends and family get tired of hearing about your ex before you are healed, it may behoove you to go into counseling. A trained therapist can help you work through the break up issues. By talking to a counselor, you will be able to identify many issues in your life. Some of these will be about why you and your ex broke up. Others will help you be a better boyfriend or girlfriend in the future.

Sometimes talk therapy isn’t enough. When this happens, you need to see a psychiatrist who can put you on anti-depressant medication. Prozac, Paxil, and other SSRIs can make a big difference in how you feel about the world. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for medical help when you need it.

There are other things you can do for yourself when you are in a love depression. For instance, when you go to the gym to work out, you not only improve your body, you also improve your mood. Getting your body moving sends chemicals to the brain which elevate your mood.

Pampering yourself can also help you believe that you are a worthwhile person. Getting a massage can bring a physical relief to your weary body.

Sometimes eating, in moderation, can soothe your soul. Chocolate, ice cream, and comfort foods all help ease the pain of a break up. Don’t overdo it and gain too much weight though, because you don’t want to ruin your physique.

Perhaps the best tonic for love depression though, is falling in love with someone new. Remember that in order to do that, you have to get back in the game. Don’t believe that you have to be 100 percent ready for a new relationship before you start dating again. When someone asks you out or strikes your fancy, have coffee with them. Go to the ballgame with a friend who might be interested in being more.

At some point, you have to get back on the dating scene. Whether talking to your friends, going into therapy, getting some psychiatric medication, or treating your condition yourself, you need to work out a way to cure your love depression. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll feel a lot better.

Tips on how to Get Over a Breakup

April 6, 2010 by admin

Love or lust? Are you sure that you and your partner have been sharing an authentic romantic relationship? Sometimes, a relationship is based more on lust than true love. In this case, it may still hurt a little bit when it’s over, but it’s much easier to get over the breakup. If it was true love, then the tips that follow should answer your question of “how to get over a breakup?”

It’s never pleasant to be in love with another person, only for them to tell you they don’t feel the same about you anymore. It’s hard when this happens. It’s hard to let go of the relationship. When dealing with the subject of how to get over a break up, the first thing you have to do is to switch your way of thinking.

Instead of thinking of your past relationship; learn how to get over a breakup by distracting yourself and shifting your thoughts to some other things. Focusing on your work (but don’t get overwhelmed) may help. If you don’t want to throw yourself into your work, then it’s time for you to take up a new activity or hobby. Spend some time with friends you haven’t been able to hang out with in a long time. Start going to new places, that you may have wanted to go to, but never had the time or the chance to go to.

If you keep an active lifestyle you will be able to forget your ex for a while (and then you will be able to forget them totally). As you allow yourself to be in the company of others and do other activities, you will help yourself heal faster.

Another tip on how to get over a breakup is to talk to someone who you completely trust. You’ll be able to talk about all your feelings and emotions with them. Sometimes it helps to just talk and let the bottled up feelings come out. It’s better to let your sadness, bitterness, and/or anger come out; instead of bottling it up and letting them eat you up inside. By talking it out with someone you trust, you’ll be able to “detoxify” your emotions.

While it’s okay to take some time to recoup from a breakup, don’t let it ruin your life. It’s important that you don’t just lie around the house and don’t do anything. Use your family and friends as support. Don’t beat yourself up mentally over the breakup. The longer you dwell on the relationship and what went wrong, the harder it will be for you to recover and move on.

The best advice on how to get over a breakup, is to make sure you take care of yourself. It may be hard to do, but you have to ensure you’re eating properly and you’re getting enough rest. Exercise is also a great way to help get rid of some of your negative feelings and will help you feel better faster. If you don’t eat properly or get enough rest, you’ll feel worse than you already do. After a break up it’s hard enough to think clearly, let alone when you are not providing your body with proper sleep and nutrition.

4 Stages of Breaking up Exposed

March 7, 2010 by admin

Love is said to be the most wonderful thing here on earth. It actually makes our lives more meaningful. In addition, loving and being loved in return or simply being in a relationship is the most wonderful experience that we can go through. However, a happy and bright relationship may turn into darkness once it reaches the end of the line which is usually referred to as breaking up.

This is the time when we feel so terrible because of the hurts and pains that we feel deep within our hearts. As a matter of fact, there are certain stages of breaking up which we are going to encounter whether we like it or not. Here are some of the most common stages of breaking up:

1st stage: The first stage concerning break ups is the feeling of shock. This is actually our initial reaction once we find out that our relationship is about to end. This feeling is just pretty normal because no one knows when, where, and how a certain break up will happen.

2nd stage: Refusing to believe that our relationship has now had to end is the second stage which we will encounter in a break up experience. If we haven’t been shocked with the news of breaking up then maybe, we are just in denial that something is wrong with our present relationship. We try to make ourselves believe that any cracks in our relationship are just cracks that can still be solved; when in fact such cracks are hard to fix and worst of all, cannot be fixed anymore.

3rd stage: The third stage is depression. Being depressed after the break up is just a normal feeling. After all, no one is going to be happy in news about breaking up. However, we simply have to bear in mind not to think excessively about what happened because it won’t do us any good at all.

4th stage: The last stage that we are going to encounter in a break up experience is acceptance. Sometimes, the very best way to deal with a break up is to accept the fact that our relationship was never meant to last. We just have to be happy that we have experience the magic of love even in a short while with someone whom we really loved. At this stage, you realize that it is over and you probably will be willing to meet some new people to potentially date.

How Can I Stop My Divorce

February 25, 2010 by admin

A lot of people going through rough times will ask the question, “How Can I Stop My Divorce?” There is no real catch all answer or solution to the question; each marriage and each person is different. There are some mistakes that are very commonly made, however, and from these we can learn what needs to be done to win back a partner and avoid mistakes.

The first common mistake is that a person will give lines that are meant as reassurances. Saying that you will be better or that things have changed. This sort of line is rarely believed. It sounds desperate and truly insincere, and makes you appear weak in the eyes of your partner. It does not matter how sincere you are or how much you think they want to hear it. “I have changed’ will not stop my divorce!”

What will work is to not say anything. There will not be much that will convince them or reassure them. Actions are what are needed. Do not say that you have changed, actually change. You should be strong in working with you partner, and do the things that are needed to fix your relationship.

Another mistake made is to engage in emotional blackmail. Saying “I love you,” is an obvious line, that makes it seem that you are attacking their weak point. That phase is one of the most powerful of phrases. It carries with it so much weight and power, that it is something that should not be used lightly. It should definitely not be used to try and fix a failing marriage.

How can you convey your love then? You might ask how you can “stop my divorce” if you never say “I love you?” You should not say “I love you” when you and your partner are in a weak emotional state. Save the line for when the marriage is mended. Otherwise, you will tax your spouse emotionally.

The next big mistake to make is to argue. “If they see their hypocrisy, that will stop my divorce.” Techniques of reason to change your spouses mind, or attempting to guilt them to your side, is destined for failure. One wants to be right, and convince your partner that you are right, or you want to point out the failings of your partner. This sort of thing will only push you farther away.

The fix is to not argue. Do not enter into an argument, and do not start an argument. All that will do is add to the problem. “How can not fixing the problem stop my divorce?” The root of the problem can only come to light if you remove the competition and need to win.

“So, how can I stop my divorce,” you may ask. The short answer is to not attack and to use actions over words. It will be through being strong and making changes that things will change. “Words will not stop my divorce, logic and reason will only hurt, I must act and solve the problems without lip service.”

How A Heartbroken Poem Will Not Fix A Breakup

February 5, 2010 by admin

When you have suffered through a breakup, it would seem that a heartbroken poem or quotes will fix things. It will not fix things. If you want to get back together, ditch the heartbroken poem and follow some hard but effective steps to mending the relationship.

These steps seem like they would worsen the breakup. However the world of relationships is not something that makes sense or follows logic. The time where you think you should call, you should not, and when you think you should be as emotive as a heartbroken poem, when you should be more stolid and steadfast.

The first step in fixing things is to accept that you need to break up. Time apart will show both of you how much you want to be together. Even more so, do not communicate, talk, call, send a heartbroken poem, nothing. This extremely hard step will serve to make coming back together even more powerful.

You should not wallow in self pity and sorrow. That leads to the heartbroken poem and song. You should be taking action. Making changes that fix your relationship should be your goal. You need to figure out what went wrong and change that part of your life. Otherwise you are set to stay apart.

It is your task to change and become better. It may seem easier or more appropriate to send a heartbroken poem to get back with the person you love. Romantic words and describing your feelings would seem like it should make things better. The intent is there, but it is likely to do more harm than good.

The reason for the failure of the heartbroken poem is that your ex-partner will likely read it the wrong way. It is full of emotion and heart and such power. Here you are, shipping this power to your ex as though it should change things will make your ex recoil. It will be taken as a form of emotional black mail, like you are going to “win.” This will only make your ex defensive and recoil away.

You will also seem like you are dismissing your ex and their needs. There might be real problems between you and your ex, which need to be addressed and taken care of. What you end up doing is writing a heartbroken poem hoping that it will solve everything. All you will do is add insult to injury.

The best thing you can do is to give space and address your problems yourself. Give plenty of space and try not to communicate. Should both of you address the problems that are plaguing your relationship, and you both make things such that the relationship can come back together, then and only then will things work out.

What seems like it should work, will not work. Things in a relationship do not follow logic or make sense. What should be done is to work on personal growth, instead of trying to fix your partner through talking, arguing, or sending the heartbroken poem.

How to Get Over Someone You Love A Heartbreak Healing Guide

January 30, 2010 by admin

Do you know how to get over someone you love? If you have had a deep, meaningful experience with a partner and the relationship goes sour, you may not know how to get over someone you love.

At first, you will feel terribly hurt and alone. Accept your pain – don’t fight it. You spent a good amount of time and emotional energy on your ex, and that won’t heal in a hurry. It is okay to cry. Talk to your friends and family about how they dealt with a break up.

One useful thing to do at this stage is to write a letter to your ex. Pour out everything that is in your heart. Talk about your love, your expectations, and your pain. Many people find that this letter runs pages in length. Take your time composing it.

Then, when you have said everything that needs saying, roll up the letter and burn it.

That’s right. What ever you do, do not mail this letter to your ex. The purpose of the letter was for you to emote. But, don’t keep the letter lying around either. You want a symbolic ending. Burning gives you a sense of finality that even throwing the letter away won’t give you.

As you get a little bit of perspective on the relationship, the next step in how to get over someone you love is to analyze what went wrong. As unlikely as it seems right now, you will have other relationships. If you learn from the mistakes in this one, the next one has a better chance of success.

Keep your distance from your ex. That will help you in how to get over someone you love. As soon after the break up as possible, exchange any property you have of each others, and then do a complete separation for 30 days. Agree that you won’t call, text, or email each other for a month. This will give you time to recover from the break up.

Use this time to work on areas of your own life that you have neglected. If you have ignored friends because your romantic relationship took up too much time, use this period in your life to reconnect. Friends can provide a valuable support network during this time.

Start working on your own emotional and physical health during this time. Take time to go to the gym and consider getting therapy to help your psyche heal.

You should also look into ways to improve yourself. Join a hiking club. Take a class at the local community center. Take tango lessons. As you work on becoming a better person, the hurt of the relationship will begin to fade away.

You will meet a whole new circle of people when you get involved in activities you enjoy. Some of these people will become friends. And, one may become a soul mate.

And isn’t forming a new relationship the ultimate answer to the question “how to get over someone you love?”
